Guardian Express - - RESIDENTIAL -

THE Agency Group invites people to take part in Vinnies Drive-in, Sleep-in at the Galaxy Drive-in, Kingsley on Friday, October 12 to help raise funds to support people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.

While homelessness often brings to mind people sleeping on the street, many others have no option other than to sleep in their car.

The Agency chief executive Paul Niardone said families, friends, the community and business organisations were encouraged to support this new event and experience what it was like to sleep in a car.

“More people are homeless in Australia than ever before and government services are decreasing,” he said.

“We continue to see a growing number of families with children sleeping rough and we believe more has to be done to help .

“We strongly believe in getting involved in the community and our obligation to give back, and Vinnies and the work they do is a perfect fit.

“As a company that facilitates all aspects of buying and selling property, we believe it is our duty to help those who can’t buy or rent a house yet. By working with Vinnies the funds we raise will go directly to those in need, from providing bedding, clothing and groceries to funding the crisis accommodation centre which helps out so many in times of need.”

Vinnies executive manager of social enterprise Carl Prowse said the event would highlight the complex issues that surround homelessness and social disadvantage.

“The Drive-in, Sleep-in event challenges people to break out of their comfort zone for one night to experience what it’s like to sleep in their car,” he said.
