The trick to con­trol­ling slide in reg­u­lar tun­ing is all down to ef­fec­tive mut­ing so it’s best to adopt a fin­ger­style pick­ing tech­nique, us­ing ev­ery avail­able spare digit to hold down un­wanted strings. Your fin­ger needs to hold the slide at a po­si­tion where the point of con­tact where the string leaves the slide aligns with the lo­ca­tion of the fretwire.
