Let’s turn our at­ten­tion to four-part har­mony in the Baroque style by ex­am­in­ing an ex­tract from a work by the mas­ter of the style, J S Bach. The open­ing to BWV253 is based around a sim­ple melody in A Ma­jor. No­tice how all the melody notes are chord tones of the un­der­ly­ing har­mony.
