Guitar Techniques - - Lesson: Creative Rock -

[Bar 21 (A7 shape #3)] There are three chromatic notes in this line: all used in different ways, but always as passing notes: an Eb is used to lead to an E in beat 3 of bar 21; in beat 4 of the same bar, a Bb is used a chromatic bridge linking an A and B; and finally, if you look at the final four notes on the third string in bar 22, we’ve got a chromatic descent from a G note to an E note. Don’t let this be obscured by the use of a D pedal note on the 12th fret of the third string. Notice how the use of all these chromatic passing notes doesn’t dilute the strength of the Mixolydian sound at the heart of the lines.
