Example1 II-V-I lines in C incorporating the whole-tone scale

Guitar Techniques - - Lesson: Jazz -

This demonstrates the basic sound of the Whole-Tone scale over a resolving altered dominant chord - in this case on a couple of II-V- I sequences in C. For the first line we’re moving straight up a Dm7 arpeggio over the Dm7 chord, then straight down the G Whole-Tone scale over the G7#5 chord and resolving to a Cmaj7 arpeggio on the Cmaj7 chord. For the second line we’re doing the same in reverse further up the neck, moving straight down a Dm7 arpeggio over the Dm7 chord, then straight up the G Whole-Tone scale over the G7#5 chord and resolving to the C Major scale on the Cmaj7 chord.
