TECHNIQUE FOCUS Hybrid Picking
Hybrid picking (pick and fingers) is the technique most commonly associated with country playing, although it can have some benefits and interesting results when used in other genres such as rock - for example string skipping. When hybrid picking, your thumb and first finger are committed to holding the plectrum: this leaves you with three remaining fingers with which to pick: these are your second, third and fourth. These are named second (m), third (a) and fourth (c). Look out for my recommended hybrid picking directions throughout this article.
