The arpeg­gio pat­terns for this ex­am­ple are picked out of the D and B chord shapes, so both chords should re­main fret­ted un­til beat three of the fol­low­ing bar. No­tice that in bar 2 the full barre form of G is used to pro­vide a quick change to the F, but in bar 4 the open G form pro­vides a smoother change to the A chord. Mar­riott was great at pulling out in­strantly catchy riffs from open and barre chords.
