Get the tone

Guitar Techniques - - LESSON: JAZZ -

Mike Stern plays a Yamaha PA511MS model and a Michael Aronson custom guitar with a ‘50s Fender Broadcaster neck, and Bill Lawrence and Seymour Duncan pickups, which he had built after his old Tele, bought from Danny Gatton and previously owned by Roy Buchanan, was stolen in a mugging in Boston. Stern uses Boss distortion and delay pedals and a Yamaha SPX-90 which gives his trademark chorused sound, through Fender Twin or Yamaha G100-212 amps. Use the neck pickup and roll the tone off, or take the treble down on your amp, and add a fairly heavy, slow chorus.
