The EVH sound was originally achieved with the Frankenstrat, made up of various components including Charvel neck, Boogie body, single Gibson PAF humbucker, and Floyd Rose vibrato. When plugged into a 1967-68 100 watt Marshall 'plexi' this created the 'brown sound': cutting but warm with more saturation and gain. EVH’s guitars tend to be tuned to Eb, but our examples are in standard tuning. Go high on master volume and balance with front-end gain. Add a flanger if you have one and some light slap-back echo.
