Here is a nice move be­tween dif­fer­ent shape 1 and shape 3 dom­i­nant 13 voic­ings. Bar 1 has the root on top, while bar 2 has the 9th on top. Play­ing a maj7 chord down a tone from the root gives you a dom­i­nant 13; hence the se­cond shape in Bar 6, which ap­pears as E (F13: go down a tone = E6­maj7). This pro­gres­sion sounds re­ally cool, so why not try us­ing a vi­brato or ‘Les­lie’ ef­fect to add a sleazy jazz club vibe.
