Here is a nice move between different shape 1 and shape 3 dominant 13 voicings. Bar 1 has the root on top, while bar 2 has the 9th on top. Playing a maj7 chord down a tone from the root gives you a dominant 13; hence the second shape in Bar 6, which appears as E (F13: go down a tone = E6maj7). This progression sounds really cool, so why not try using a vibrato or ‘Leslie’ effect to add a sleazy jazz club vibe.
