Example4 Close voicings ‘inside’ in a soul groove

Guitar Techniques - - LEARNING ZONE -

This example uses close voicings on the inside strings (5-4-3-2) in two II-V-I progressions with chord shapes 3-5-3 from the CAGED system. The first one uses plain chords, whereas I have added more harmonic complexity to

JBb7b9 the second by using a dominant chord with the – and ending on a Lydian Dominant chord – Ab9#11. If some of these shapes are unfamiliar, spend 15 minutes a day practising them and they’ll soon be second nature.
