Again, these dis­so­nant-sound­ing chords are at first un­ex­pected, but per­se­vere with them and you’ll see how they take the mu­sic on a jour­ney that is far from the usual, pre­dictable se­quences you find in most pop and rock writ­ing.

This se­quence is pre­dom­i­nantly driven by the bassline. In this case the bassline de­scends, which gives us an op­por­tu­nity to use the D-E-F chord mo­tion driven by the de­scend­ing bassline. Al­though a strum­ming ex­er­cise, this should tax your fin­gers and brain and hope­fully in­spire your own writ­ing.
