EOne practical and clear application of slash chords is when an upper chord remains static and a bassline moves, thus ‘recolouring’ the upper chord. Examples abound in pop and rock music from The Beatles – Dear Prudence, Oasis – Champagne Supernova to the opening of The Police’s – Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic. (The latter featuring a rising Lydian bassline under a static top chord).
