Here’s another ex­am­ple in a mi­nor key. The up­per C mi­nor chord re­mains the same in all but the very last chord, while the bassline moves (mostly down­ward) chro­mat­i­cally. You might hear a sim­i­lar idea on the jazz stan­dards My Funny Valen­tine and It Don’t Mean A Thing, but it is a fun­da­men­tal con­cept and you can hear it in The Bea­tles’ Michelle, the “I don’t want to leave her now” sec­tion of Ge­orge Har­ri­son’s Some­thing and, of course, Zep­pelin’s Stair­way...
