EOur fi­nal ex­am­ple shows how Wes might em­bel­lish a sim­ple voice-lead­ing con­nec­tion in de­scend­ing semi­tones through a ma­jor II-V-I in G. In part 9a, we es­tab­lish the ba­sic de­scend­ing move from B (9th of Am) to A# (D7’s #5)

Eand fi­nally rest­ing on A (to cre­ate G ma­jor 9). Ex­am­ple 9b fleshes this out with as­so­ci­ated chord tones and in 9c we thicken the line in oc­taves. Fi­nally, 9d show­cases Wes’s block chords with the same voice-led B-A#-A at its heart.
