BRUCE WELCH RHYTHM STYLE: CHA-CHA INFLUENCE

cd track 4

Guitar Techniques - - INSTRUMENTALS -

The shadows drew their rhythmic influences not just from rock and roll, but also from the dance music of the day. Latin music was hugely popular during the late 50s and early 60s. This example illustrates Bruce’s cha-cha style of accompaniment that was used on several shadows songs. Notice that instead of maintaining th2e 16th-note picking pattern, he reverts to eighth note alternate picking on the second beat. This improves the delivery and groove of the eighth-note rhythms.
