Rusty Cooley needs no introduction to GT readers as he’s featured in several articles over the years with his staggering shred metal chops. The new five-track EP with band, Day Of Reckoning, is blisteringly aggressive with amazing precision. Vocalist, Brad Lambert shifts from growling metal demon to vibratorich hard rock singing while the guitar riffs come thick and fast. Equipped with his signature Dean seven-strings, Rusty is a fan of big intervallic jumps and syncopated 16th patterns for the band’s often Phrygian or Phrygian Dominant riffs. Come solo time, he’s like a whippet bolting from its stall; full-on speed at maximum velocity. Left To Follow is a good example of the band’s sound and his blistering alternate picking, shred sweeps and huge vibrato chops. If you like metal virtuosity, Rusty’s your man!
