As this lesson deals with breaking out of a rut using something that sounds good in modern jazz, let me introduce you to New York jazz guitarist Mike Moreno. Mike is a great composer and a highly-creative guitarist who manages to be devoid of cliché. On his solo records, he blends beautifully with musical soulmate, pianist Aaron Parks. I played nothing but Mike’s album Another Way in my car for about three years. There’s not a duff track on the album, the band is great throughout and it will reward repeated listening.
