EXAMPLE5 JIMI/JAMES – MAJOR PENTATONIC AND SLASH CHORDS (3-5/1-3)

The inspiration behind these pair of examples are the guitarists Jimi Hendrix and James Taylor and while on the face of it they may not seem to bear too may close similarities, closer inspection reveals some connections in the way that they embellish basic Major chords using the Major Pentatonic scale (R-2-3-5-6), and how they might add ornamentation to three-string triad fragments, situated on the first to third strings.
