Jefferson Starship guitarist reunited with his lost ’59 Burst
Jefferson Starship guitarist Craig Chaquico is back with his 1959 Les Paul after it went AWOL in a riot ahead of a planned 1978 show in Germany with the band’s original line-up. Three years after he was tipped off that the guitar might still be in existence, Craig’s mission to get it back has ended after a settlement agreement was reached, aided by a meeting between the guitarist and the instrument’s owner following a year of legal discussion.
“Seeing the guitar for the first time after so many years brought back so many memories," says Chaquico about the affectionately named ‘Lorelei’, after the place where it went missing. “One of my dreams from the outset was simply to perform or record with it again… and it looks like that dream just might come true.”
The guitar was thought to have been destroyed during the riot on the German Rhine that was sparked by an announcement that the band wouldn’t be taking the stage that day. “I’m thoroughly excited about hitting the stage with it again," adds Chaquico. “It’ll be a magical moment. I’ll feel like a ‘kid’ in the mid-70s all over again.” www.craigchaquico.com
