The highly respected session man on his go-to acoustic

Guitarist - - The Tone Doctor - Robbie Mcintosh

“The Collings dreadnought I’m playing today was a present from John Mayer. I was playing in Austin on my 50th birthday and he surprised me with this just before we went on. I’ve started using this guitar a lot in the studio. Before I got this I had another dreadnought, which I’ve still got, which is a 1970 D-18 – so that’s mahogany back and sides, whereas this is rosewood. And I like using my Gibson J-50, because I love playing it. But that’s very different. It’s J-45ish with an adjustable bridge. so you can get the action down on it. I always thought mahogany was better, a bit lighter, because rosewood can be a bit boomy I find – but I think as it ages it lightens up a bit, like this one. It’s really opened up a lot in the past 10 years. It’s a very nice strummer, this one.” To hear more about Robbie’s other guitars and musical exploits, see the full video interview at: http://bit.ly/guitaristextra
