Different bridges, incredible sighs! “I don’t really think my guitar sound or my approach to my guitar sound has changed at all in 40 years,” Robin Trower told Guitarist when we spoke to him last year, during the recording of this very album. “It’s still a Strat – all right, it’s a slightly different Strat than I used to play then – but it’s still a Strat through a pedal into a Marshall and that’s it, you know?” A modest master of understatement, if ever there was one! Now, at the age of 72, Trower is still pounding out a powerful blues-infused message after a career that has spanned six decades. He’s totally at home with the ‘power trio’ format – the album features bass player Livingstone Brown on occasional keyboard duties – and Time And Emotion lacks nothing in terms of harmonic density or intensity of sound. Check out the signature Strat-through-Dejá-Vibe tones on tracks such as Bitten By The Snake and You’re The One here to hear a true master at work – and watch out for Robin’s only live UK date this year as he hits Islington Assembly Hall on 29 November. [DM] Standout track: Bitten By The Snake For fans of: Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan
