THE EX­AM­PLE is all about the sus­tain. It might not get into ‘go for a bite’ ter­ri­tory, but in 1966 it must have seemed al­most su­per­nat­u­ral (ex­cuse the pun). This isn’t su­per dis­torted, Sub­tle com­pres­sion can help if you’re re­stricted to lower vol­umes. Look out for the quar­ter tone bends – and if you want a bit more ‘Clap­ton’, sub­sti­tute the F nat­u­ral in bar 2 with an F sharp.
