Give vintaGe Guitars extra road-proofinG

Guitar tech Chris Lawson, who’s worked with everyone from Robert Plant to Peter Gabriel, says, “It’s nice to use vintage gear but you have to get classic guitars gig-ready because old stuff will wear out and break. Doing things like changing the machine-heads is a common one. Keep the originals, obviously, so you can put them back on, but if you’re changing strings every day those beautiful original Klusons, or whatever they are, don’t like it and they’re usually worn anyway. So my advice would be to change them out for a tour and then put the original ones back in at the end. That kind of thing makes a lot of sense.”
