Guitarist - - Feature -

Good tone is the by-product of many different factors. The pick you use, the angle of attack, fretting hand touch, finger-picking etc. All these factors will affect the sound you produce. Experiment with where and how you pick the string. Angling the pick will produce more attack, while hitting the string flat on will provide a fatter tone. Brian May gets great results from using a sixpence; The Edge turns the pick on its side and strikes the string with the dimpled grip; Robben Ford turns the pick round and uses the fat end. Try different picks until you find one that fits you.
