Solo Flight: The Genius Of Charlie Christian

Guitarist - - Feature -

This compilation album features tracks by guitarist Charlie Christian cut between 1939 and 1941. Most of us know the man’s name thanks to the Charlie Christian pickup, but he holds a more important place in history as the inventor of the guitar solo. Before Charlie, the guitar was a backing instrument. On Solo Flight you hear Christian punching his way out of the mix with aggressively comp’d chords and single string solos. His arpeggio work on standards such as Tea For Two is way ahead of its time. Standout track: Stardust Technique take-home: Seamless switching between comping and soloing is the key
