2017 MILLBROOK SINGLE VINEYARD CHARDONNAY

Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, wildfermented in French barriques (50% new), matured on lees for 6 months. A striking chardonnay with 8g/l of acidity driving the palate at breakneck speed before it settles down, but the theme continues with citrus all sorts (lemon, grapefruit and lime) that should by rights make you think of sauvignon blanc or riesling. But you don’t, for the chardonnay birthmark is burnt into the heart of the wine. 13.5% alc.

This is the perfect wine with which to turn even the most hardened chardonnay-sceptic; its tightly wound, edgy lemon and lime character is beautifully fresh and vibrant, yet it retains pastry and pine notes from barrel fermentation that make it distinctively chardonnay.
