MARGARET RIVER TURNS 50
A number of wineries from WA’s Margaret River recently banded together to celebrate 50 years since the irst vines went into the region. Tom Cullity planted at Vasse Felix in 1967, following research by Dr John Gladstones showing the region had an ideal climate for viticulture. Since then, more than 100 wineries have established themselves within the vast region, with chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon remaining the hero varieties, but now joined by many other standout styles. Tasting events in Sydney and Melbourne provided a snapshot of the region’s excellent wines.
