Simone Madden-Grey

WINE WRITER

Simone takes us to Waiheke Island, NZ ( p50) Any surprises on your visit to Waiheke Island?

I hadn’t realised how much you can escape the hustle and bustle there. It was so easy to enjoy the local wine and views, and slip into the relaxed vibe. But it’s very hard to leave!

Which wines are you loving right now?

I’m enjoying bubbles, rosé and also chilled reds from the Yarra Valley. I’m looking forward to lighter, crisper styles for spring.

our feature ( p66) What was the highlight of your trip to the Great Southern region? As with every trip to the Great Southern, the opportunity to eat Amy Hamilton’s food at Liberte in Albany was a highlight.

Do you have a favourite wine from this region? Andrew Hoadley, take my money! I love Das Sakrileg by La Violetta.
