Aerin Lauder, founder of AERIN Beauty, a lead­ing part­ner in BAZAAR in Bloom, talks about the fas­ci­nat­ing beauty of fem­i­nin­ity

To say Aerin Lauder has spent a life­time con­tem­plat­ing what makes women tick would not be an ex­ag­ger­a­tion. She is, of course, the helmswoman of an epony­mous life­style and beauty brand, and the grand­daugh­ter of cos­met­ics pi­o­neer Estée Lauder — who first turned the cel­e­bra­tion of fem­i­nin­ity into a daily beauty rit­ual. While the AERIN Beauty and Estée el­e­ments of Lauder’s fam­ily busi­ness are rad­i­cally dif­fer­ent, the truth is, con­nect­ing with women is in her DNA.

Ask her for whom she’s de­sign­ing her home­wares, ac­ces­sories and fra­grances, and Lauder’s an­swer is sim­ple: the woman of 2017. “[The AERIN woman is] fem­i­nine, strong and so­phis­ti­cated — in­spired by cre­ativ­ity, crafts­man­ship, rich sto­ry­telling and authen­tic­ity,” she says. Un­like her late grand­mother’s tra­di­tional no­tion of fem­i­nine beauty, there’s no men­tion of heels, im­pec­ca­ble hair or ‘lady­like’ man­ner­isms. Lauder is all about boyfriend-style shirts, denim and bare soles. Fem­i­nin­ity is per­haps best de­scribed as a feel­ing.

Fem­i­nin­ity is also in­trin­si­cally linked to fam­ily. As a mother of two teenage boys, Lauder un­der­stands the life-chang­ing in­flu­ence that moth­er­hood has on a woman. That’s why she

was so quick to sign on as a part­ner of BAZAAR in Bloom — Harper’s

BAZAAR’S fundrais­ing event for The Royal Hos­pi­tal for Women’s Fer­til­ity & Re­search Cen­tre in Syd­ney. “I be­lieve all woman de­serve the op­por­tu­nity to be­come a mother,” she says. “I am proud to sup­port this cause.”

In a fit­ting ges­ture, guests found prod­ucts from the new AERIN Beauty Tuberose Col­lec­tion in­side their gift bags. The range cen­tres on two “fas­ci­nat­ingly dif­fer­ent” fra­grances: Le Jour en­cap­su­lates the prom­ise of day­break, while Le Soir evokes the en­ergy of night­fall. “Tuberose ra­di­ates lux­u­ri­ous fem­i­nin­ity and moder­nity,” Lauder says. “Each fra­grance has its own story and per­son­al­ity, yet both are grounded in love and friend­ship.”
