BRIGHT SPARKS

Showgoers say yes to neon excess

Harper’s Bazaar (Australia) - - Style -

The resort show circuit is a whirlwind of holiday-worthy destinations (resort 2019 featured Chanel and Dior in Paris, Mercedes-benz Fashion Week Australia in Sydney, Gucci in Provence) and, as such, lucky attendees often opt for a certain type of look — think the three Fs: feminine, floral or floaty. But this season, showgoers cut through their dreamy attire with flashes of acid. At MBFWA, neon-soled Nike Air Max 270s were styled with retro-inspired Zimmermann florals; a ladylike flounce skirt was paired with a highlighter yellow Balenciaga triangle duffle. Sienna Miller toted a bright blue Art Nouveau-style hat-box bag at Louisvuitton, and more than one guest arrived at Chanel’s extravaganza at the Grand Palais in traffic-cone orange. Neons were the breakout colour trend from the A/W 2018 collections, so it’s perhaps no surprise that the fashion set is dipping their toes in now. Consider this a vivid warning sign that there are more block brights ahead. – Clare Maclean
