Demons take victory in low-scoring tigers game
WAROONA had their revenge on their first round victors Pinjarra in a tough night match on Saturday.
In a home game, the Demons faced off against the tigers who sat above them on the ladder going into the match.
It started off fairly even in round one with both sides taking a goal and the Demons only three points ahead.
Then in round two the Demons kicked three goals to Pinjarra’s none.
The Demons maintained their dominance, despite only taking three goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth, with Pinjarra only kicking their second goal in the final quarter.
Waroona 8.11 (59) defeated Pinjarra 2.11 (23).
League coach Dean Taylor said it was a tough match but Waroona proved tougher.
“We had more blokes who were willing to put their head over the ball and we were hunting the ball more than they did,” he said.
Mr Taylor said Andrew Leroy and Mitchell Dawson were the top players in the match with the entire defensive line also performing well.
“The entire back line was rock solid,” he said.
In the next round, the Demons face Mandurah who sit in a similar position with four wins and two losses early in the season.
Mr Taylor said it would be a tough match as Mandurah had also beat Pinjarra by three goals.
“That’s going to be a tough game,” he said.
In the reserves, Waroona 11.3 (69) defeated Pinjarra 8.16 (64).
In the colts, Pinjarra 25.13 (163) defeated Waroona 4.1 (25).
