Hon­our for long ser­vice to CWA

A TORCH­BEARER at the Syd­ney Olympics and pres­i­dent of two Coun­try Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion branches, Rosa Tognela has been hon­oured for 40 years of ser­vice.

Mrs Tognela has been the WA State pres­i­dent, State in­ter­na­tional of­fi­cer, as­sis­tant to the South Pa­cific area pres­i­dent, Geographe area pres­i­dent and pres­i­dent of the Wagerup and Burekup-Brunswick branches.

In these roles she has at­tended nu­mer­ous na­tional and in­ter­na­tional con­fer­ences.

Mrs Tognela joined the as­so­ci­a­tion in 1977 which all started when she was tak­ing her moth­erin-law to meet­ings in Wagerup.

“I was very happy to take her but, by the end of the day she had paid my mem­ber­ship,” Mrs Tognela said. From Wagerup, Mrs Tognela moved to the Burekup-Brunswick branch, where she was voted sec­re­tary and pres­i­dent again be­fore be­com­ing divi­sion pres­i­dent for the Geographe re­gion.

In 1997, Mrs Tognela be­came pres­i­dent of Coun­try Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion WA and was as­sis­tant to the South Pa­cific area pres­i­dent, cov­er­ing Aus­tralia, New Zealand and the Pa­cific na­tions, up un­til last year.

For the 2000 Syd­ney Olympics, Mrs Tognela was a torch­bearer on be­half of the Coun­try Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion Women of WA in a leg through Perth.

“At the end of the run, the as­so­ci­a­tion had a break­fast in the park and that was very spe­cial too, and all my fam­ily were there,” she said.

Mrs Tognela moved to Bunbury seven years ago and joined the lo­cal CWA branch.

“There’s been some won­der­ful memories, I’ve launched books, I’ve opened agri­cul­tural shows,” she said.

“I couldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for my fam­ily, they gave me 100 per cent sup­port.”
