Hunter wins golf as rain and hail keeps many away

IT was a test­ing day for golfers at the Har­vey Golf Club on Wed­nes­day as only 15 scroungers played for the Garry Beacham Tro­phy due to the in­clement weather.

A stable­ford was won with Brian Hunter on 39, fol­lowed by Garry Beacham on 35, Ming Yap 33, Cec Hol­man and Phil Humphreys on 30, John Spencer, Stewie Jones and Steve Doyle on 28.

In the gross stable­ford, Garry Beacham won with 29 fol­lowed by Cec Hol­man on 23. In the four­ball stable­ford, Ming Yap and Alan Cope won with 42.

What was sup­posed to be a wet and windy day turned into a great day for golf on Satur­day for the John Lowe Tro­phy.

All 45 starters en­joyed the day with the course pre­sented in good con­di­tion con­sid­er­ing the el­e­ments dur­ing the week. The win­ner was Peter Shine with a great 75 off the stick to blitz the field.

In the stable­ford, Peter Shine won with 41 fol­lowed by Ian Grieves 39, Peter Bran­dis 37, Mitch McSweeney 37, An­drew Hen­der­son, Garry Beacham, Ming Yap and Peter Castelli 36, Stewie Jones, Steve For­ward, Jim Baggetta and Char­lie Baggetta 35, Carl Carulli and Frank Ital­iano 34, Rab Ain­sowrth, Trevor Pig­gott, Noe­lene Hoff­man, Ian Dob­son and Michael Lowe 33. Gross stable­ford: Peter Shine 33, Garry Beacham 31, An­drew Hen­der­son 29.

In the four­ball team stable­ford, Corey Hick­man, Peter Shine, An­drew Hen­der­son and Jim Baggetta won with 52.

Near­est to the pin on No. 1 was Peter Bran­dis, No. 6 Dave Muller, No. 10 Ian Dob­son and No. 17 Carl Carulli.

Hail on the course slowed play at one point dur­ing Wed­nes­day's game.
