PANTRIES could be on the frontline of WA’s biosecurity blitz with the community encouraged to join the second annual Pantry Blitz.

Hosted by Agriculture and Food at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, people are asked to help uncover exotic pests hiding in kitchen cupboards.

Starting from August 12 to correspond with the start of Science Week, people registered for the Pantry Blitz will receive a free trap for their kitchen pantry or cupboard for a one month period.

Participants are asked to photograph any insects that are trapped and send the photographs to the department each week over the four weeks, using the MyPestGuide Reporter app.

Agriculture and Food entomologists will then identify the insects and report back.
