Vol­un­teers recog­nised for ser­vice

HAR­VEY St John Am­bu­lance cel­e­brated the ded­i­cated mem­bers of its sub-cen­tre on Septem­ber 9 and awarded one of its most ded­i­cated with a life mem­ber­ship.

Long ser­vice cer­tifi­cates and badges were awarded in a cer­e­mony at the cen­tre, with long-time vol­un­teer and com­mit­tee mem­ber Wendy Fry awarded a life mem­ber­ship for her ser­vice in many roles at the cen­tre since join­ing in 2004.

Sub-cen­tre chair­man Chris Sabourne said it was fit­ting Ms Fry re­ceived the hon­our for her work on the com­mit­tee over the years as ros­ter­ing of­fi­cer, vicechair­man, sec­re­tary and hospi­tal li­ai­son in ad­di­tion to sub-com­mit­tee roles and vol­un­teer­ing shifts.

“It’s in recog­ni­tion of hav­ing gone above and be­yond what they have come into the or­gan­i­sa­tion for,” he said.

“It’s not done that of­ten and you’ve got to earn them.”

De­spite mov­ing to Duns­bor­ough last year, Mrs Fry con­tin­ues to work am­bu­lance shifts each week.

“She still comes up to vol­un­teer, that’s the sort of per­son she is,” Mr Sabourne said.

Life mem­ber Arthur Hall was also recog­nised, with a cer­tifi­cate of ap­pre­ci­a­tion for 19 years of ser­vice on the sub-cen­tre com­mit­tee.

Kel­lie Craigie and Guy Bar­ring­ton were pre­sented cer­tifi­cates for one and three years of ser­vice re­spec­tively.

Sean Bernard, Ray Ker­shaw and Julie Mizzen were all pre­sented cer­tifi­cates for both one year and two years of ser­vice.

Denny Bishop, Anne Ku­mar and Dawn Bishop were pre­sented a ser­vice badge for nine years of ser­vice.
