$3m up­grades to high­way en­trances

NEARLY $3 mil­lion worth of up­grades at en­trances to For­rest High­way near Aus­tralind are ex­pected to be com­pleted by Novem­ber as part of the State Gov­ern­ment’s Black Spot Pro­gram.

Col­lie-Pre­ston MLA Mick Mur­ray said the con­struc­tion of a series of ac­cel­er­a­tion lanes, which be­gan last month, were es­sen­tial as the traf­fic in­creased with the re­gion’s pop­u­la­tion growth.

would only be­come more acute, these im­prove­ments no doubt will save lives,” he said.

About $1.19 mil­lion is be­ing spent to con­struct a left turn ac­cel­er­a­tion lane out of Old Coast Road onto For­rest High­way head­ing north­bound

A fur­ther $1.1 mil­lion is fund- ing the con­struc­tion of an ac­cel­er­a­tion lane turn­ing right out of Paris Road onto For­rest High­way head­ing south.

Mr Mur­ray said it would be sim­i­lar to the one turn­ing right out of Eaton Drive onto For­rest High­way.

“This will im­prove traf­fic flow and safety for south­bound traf­fic turn­ing right out of Paris Road onto For­rest High­way,” he said.

Fund­ing of $663,000 from the Depart­ment of Mines and Petroleum will also be used to con­struct a left turn ac­cel­er­a­tion lane out of John­ston Road onto For­rest High­way south­bound.
