Approval granted for Waroona shed
WAROONA Men’s Shed is a step closer to its new home with a planning proposal approved by the Waroona Shire Council last Tuesday.
The new shed will adjoin the youth centre in the Waroona Showgrounds and be constructed from Colorbond steel.
Men’s Shed member and past president Phil Turner said the next step was to submit the building plans to the council.
A planning proposal for the shed has already come before the council however the plans have since been scaled back to be more in line with available grant money.
“If we wanted a shed we had to come back to reality,” Mr Turner said.
He said the shed design would fit in with a number of buildings at the showgrounds, also made from Colorbond steel.
Mr Turner said a start date for the construction could not be set until costs had been attained from a builder.
“I would like to think it would be well and truly done by the next show day,” he said.
Waroona shire president Michael Walmsley said he supported the Men’s Shed’s proposal and the work they do in the community.
“We are lucky to have a really driven community and the committee that’s behind it has sourced funding and did all the hard yards,” he said.
“I think it’s a fantastic thing and it’s going to be a focal point for the town right on the highway so hopefully they do a good job and it looks good.”
Cr Walmsley abstained from the vote on the proposal because he has a property near the proposed shed’s location.
