HAR­VEY cham­pion karate black belt Carol Anne Sophia To­mas will be one of a se­lect few to bear the Queen’s Ba­ton in the lead up to the Com­mon­wealth Games early next year.

On Fe­bru­ary 23, Carol, 11, will be run­ning a leg of the ba­ton’s visit to Bun­bury in the lead up to the Com­mon­wealth Games on the Gold Coast in Fe­bru­ary 2018.

Carol said she was hon­oured to have been cho­sen.

“I feel very hon­oured, very happy and ex­cited,” she said. “I’m just ready.” De­spite only com­pet­ing in karate for four years, Carol has at­tained black belt and won the Girls 10/11 Kata di­vi­sion at the In­ter­na­tional Sho­tokan Karatedo World Cham­pi­onship in South Africa last year.

Carol also plays with the Har­vey Bas­ket­ball League and was the ju­nior Most Valu­able Player and Grand Fi­nal Most Valu­able Player last sea­son.

The Queen’s Ba­ton will be­gin its WA leg at Al­bany, travel to Perth, then north to Kar­ratha with about 300 peo­ple to carry it through 19 com­mu­ni­ties over six days.
