HARVEY Shire Council will participate in an art competition next year aimed at promoting recycling awareness among primary and high school students.

The Scrap Battle Recycling Art competition, hosted by the Bunbury Wellington Regional Waste Group, is funded with a $20,000 Federal Government grant and prize contributions from participating local governments.

Recyclable materials will be provided by the Bunbury Harvey Regional Council and students will create sculptures to be judged.

Harvey shire president Tania Jackson has been nominated as a judge and will select a councillor’s award from the Harvey entrants.

Free workshops will also be held with a professional artist in each participating local government area.

The competition will be open to all primary and secondary students and is expected to be advertised before the 2017/18 school holidays with entries closing by the end of term 1 2018.
