LESCHENAULT grabbed its first Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association win of the year, defeating Collie by 85 runs at Roche Park on Saturday.

Leschenault captain Tom Buchanan elected to bat and his players rewarded his decision, posting 9/205 from their 50 overs.

Buchanan (28 runs) and fellow opener Jarrad Quinn (12) got the Green Caps off to a strong start with a 46-run opening partnership, before Jason Borrett removed Buchanan.

Borrett struck just five runs later, removing Quinn to bring the home side back into the game.

But a 53-run partnership between Kurt D’Agostino (29) and James Letchford (20) helped before both were removed in quick succession. The battle between the ball and bat intensified as Leschenault batsmen got starts, but were sent back to the pavilion without making a big score.

Wicketkeeper Josh Grime hit a nice 32 in the middle order, while Nick Webb smashed 28 runs off 29 balls to finish the innings.

Mark Williams was the best of the bowlers for Collie, finishing with 3-43 from 10 overs, while Borrett, Matt Tanner and Brayden Kent each took two wickets.

Collie’s run chase got off to a poor start when Kent was removed for a six-ball duck by Letchford, before he then removed Tom Plummer for just 28 off 25 balls.

Mark Williams tried to get the Coalminers back in the game, but he was removed by Brody D’Agostino, before Matt Dodds (1-18 off 10 overs) bowled Austin Kent for 24.

Collie captain Greg Tomasini scored a brilliant 34 , but when he was bowled by counterpart Buchanan, Collie was in trouble at 6/118.

From here the last four wickets came for just two runs, as Leschenault stormed to a big victory.

The best of the bowlers was Letchford who pikced up four wickets, while Nick Webb took 3-12 from five overs.
