Possums under threat

Harvey-Waroona Reporter - - REPORTER NEWS -

A CROWDFUNDING campaign aimed at preserving the Western Ringtail Possum that is unique to the South West, was launched this month by the South West Catchments Council.

The catchments council launched its campaign aiming to raise $30,000 to help conserve endangered marsupial species.

Council chief executive officer Damien Postma said South West residents were lucky to share their backyards with a critically endangered species and called on the community to take action.

About 8000 are left in the wild, with the species facing threats to its survival, including habitat destruction, predation by foxes, feral cats and domestic pets and death from vehicle strikes.
