40 YEARS OF SERVICE
FROM the days of telegrams to emails, Harvey postal manager Carol Gale has seen major changes but after four decades with Australia Post she still loves connecting with the community.
With gaps of only a few months throughout her career, Mrs Gale said she loved working with communities throughout the region.
“It’s been a great career, I keep thinking about retiring but I keep going back,” she said.
“I’ve worked at a few different post offices around the South West including Bunbury, Margaret Riv- er, Bridgetown, Narrogin and Collie.”
Mrs Gale started at the General Post Office in Perth on February 1, 1975, with the Post Master General’s Department shortly before it was divided into Australia Post and Telecom later that year.
“I started in the General Post Office with my dad, he got me the job and I was only supposed to work for four days but they haven’t told me to leave,” she said.
In 1986 Mrs Gale moved to Collie before becoming postal manager in Harvey where she has since worked for 14 years. “When I started in Collie that was back when telegrams were around,” she said.
Mrs Gale has also been involved in the community as a St John Ambulance volunteer in Harvey and Collie since 1994.
Mrs Gale said she loved how she was able to get to know people in the community.
“Just the customers, especially here in Harvey, you get to know most of the people on a first name basis so you can help them out,” she said.
