Utterson stars in win over Leschenault
A FIVE-wicket haul from Marist seamer Allan Utterson led the Blues to a four-wicket win over Leschenault at Forrest Park North on Saturday.
Utterson ripped through Leschenault’s top order, taking 5-20 off 10 overs to contribute in the Green Caps being dismissed for 110 in the 40th over.
Matt Buchanan was Utterson’s first victim, falling for just one run when he was caught by wicketkeeper Adam Spinelli.
Four balls later Kurt D’Agostino (0) fell after being caught by Reece O’Connell, before Utterson trapped Leschenault captain Tom Buchanan lbw for just 17. Ben Shipley ran out Ben Roberts (0) before Utterson took his fourth wicket, with Spinelli catching Jarrad Quinn (19) to leave Leschenault 5/48. Utterson finished his spell by bowling Riley Italiano (11), before O’Connell (1-17 off 10 overs) got his lone wicket for the day, trapping Brody D’Agostino for 14.
All-rounder Corey Fitt (3-8 off 3.4 overs) cleaned up the remaining wickets, bowling James Letchford (17 off 81 balls), before trapping Nick Webb lbw for seven and catching Michael Newman off his own bowling for four runs.
Marist’s run chase started poorly when young batsman Kade Wallrodt was dismissed for a duck off the bowling of Letchford (4-35 off 10 overs).
The Blues were in trouble at 2-5 when Kyle Davis (2) was caught by wicketkeeper Josh Grime off the bowling of Brody D’Agostino (1-23 off five overs).
A 65-run partnership between Fitt (34) and O’Connell (37) settled the innings, before Letchford got the breakthrough by bowling the latter.
Letchford again changed the game, bowling Fitt and having Strath Papandroulakis ( 3) caught by Grime to give his side a chance.
When Webb bowled Sam Roots (4) Marist were at 6/100, but Spinelli (25 not out) and Josh Vague (0 not out) saw their side home in 27 overs.
