Scheme fund­ing aim of trip

A DEL­E­GA­TION of Na­tion­als, in­clud­ing South West MLC Colin Holt, were in Can­berra on Fe­bru­ary 8 in a bid to win Fed­eral fund­ing for the Myalup-Welling­ton Project and the South­ern Forests Ir­ri­ga­tion Scheme.

Mr Holt said se­cur­ing the Myalup-Welling­ton project was ex­pected to de­liver bil­lions of dol- lars worth of ex­tra agri­cul­tural, hor­ti­cul­tural and forestry rev­enue over 50 years and cre­ate jobs, by mak­ing the salty Welling­ton Dam water suit­able for agri­cul­ture.

While in Gov­ern­ment, the Na­tion­als com­mit­ted $37 mil­lion for the Myalup-Welling­ton project through Roy­al­ties for Re­gions, but the projects re­quire Fed­eral sup­port to pro­ceed.
