Young Bulls pair to ply their trade in the WAFL
A PAIR of young Harvey footballers are preparing to take the next step in their fledging careers, with Jacob Pickett and Jaxon Egan signing on to play for Peel Thunder this year.
Pickett, 18, and Egan, 16, both played pivotal roles for the Bulls in the 2017 South West Football League season and have been rewarded for their efforts with the opportunity to play at WAFL level.
The young duo missed out on selection in the Thunder’s round one match against East Fremantle on Friday.
Harvey Bulls coach Paul Fimmano said the young players would do well at the Thunder.
“The one thing you have to bear in mind is that they are still learning,” he said.
“They certainly have talent and if they put in the work ethic, they will go really well.”
Fimmano said he encouraged his players to go as far as they could go and this helped give the teenagers confidence to play at the next level.
“Part of that is giving these kids league opportunities and making sure they have the experience of playing against fully-grown men,” he said.
Both have plenty of speed and raw skill, something which Fimmano identified early on.
“They have some similarities,” he said.
“The thing I like the most is they are good kids.
“Jaxon is a really good overhead mark as well.
“The thing that makes them stand out from other kids is that they can turn a game in five minutes.”
Fimmano said he was not disappointed to lose the pair.
“If I have that mentality, then I am not doing right by them,” he said.
“The Bulls are always going to be there for them.
“We just want to help put them on the right path to succeed.”
Jacob Pickett’s speed and skill have made him a hot commodity for Peel Thunder.
Harvey Bulls forward Jaxon Egan had a fantastic year in 2017.
