Sports day has a scary amount on offer

Harvey-Waroona Reporter - - NEWS -

WHILE many shy away from the notorious Friday the 13th, Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre is embracing it with a Spooky Sports Day as part of celebrations for WA Youth Week.

Centre manager David Marshall said the day would take on a spooky theme with decorations and games as well as a range of sports to try.

Entry is free with the event kicking off at 4pm and running through to 8pm, as part of WA Youth Week which runs from April 13 to 24.

Mr Marshall said the main aim of the day was to offer the 15 to 25 age group sports they might not have tried before.

Volleyball, table tennis, badminton and basketball will all be available as well as other sports equipment to have a go at.

“We’re offering the age group a range of different sports they haven’t done before,” Mr Marshall said.

He said something new would be happening every hour including a big group fitness session with music and dance moves.

“Each hour there will be something different,” he said.

After the day events there will be games with prizes available, finishing the night with food and drink.

“We’ll be finishing up with a collective celebration of Youth Week,” he said.

It was hoped interest in new sports on the day could lead to similar events becoming regular activities or competitions.

“Our hope is that it leads on to something else, like maybe a volleyball competition starting,” he said.
