Give credit where credit is due
IREFER to the article ‘ Bowlers enjoy club’s new facilities’ that appeared on page 12 ( Reporter, April 3), regarding the Harvey Bowling Club, in particular the paragraph ending, “a lick of paint to spruce up the clubrooms, which had not been refurbished in more that 20 years”.
As a former member, past president and committee member, I am appalled at that statement, because under my watch, less than 20 years ago, new carpet was laid in the dinning hall, new interior window blinds were fitted to all windows, the building was painted inside and outside, the bar refrigerator was refurbished with new doors, a new coolroom was installed, a new television was purchased and many small- er projects were completed.
As a committee member, under the watch of another previous president, further renovations were completed, such as a new roof fitted to the workshop, the veranda was repainted, the men’s toilets were upgraded, the security system was upgraded, the kitchen underwent a refurbishment, numerous shade trees surrounding the club were pruned and voluntary crews worked tirelessly to maintain the grass green for invitation events.
I am not criticising the current president or committee, but please don’t print material that makes it appear that nothing has been done in the past 20 years. Give credit where it is due, even to past volunteers.
