Alleged 50kmh over charge on Old Coast Road
CHARGES have been laid and a vehicle impounded after Waroona police stopped a driver who was allegedly driving 50kmh over the speed limit.
About 11.30am on March 29, officers stopped a BMW travelling south on Old Coast Road near Lake Clifton.
The vehicle was allegedly clocked travelling at 150kmh in a 100kmh zone.
The male driver was allegedly also driving with a suspended licence.
Waroona police Sgt Simon Bennett said he was shocked by the high speed.
“There are so many side roads and entry points along that road,” Sgt. Bennett said.
“It’s a 100kmh zone for a reason.
“Driving at these kinds of speeds poses an increased risk to not only the driver, but to other road users as well.”
A 52-year-old Rivervale man was charged with reckless driving and his vehicle was impounded on the spot.
He will appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court later this month.
Also on March 29 about 11pm, a 40year-old Mandurah driver was stopped in the Waroona CBD.
The woman was breathalysed and allegedly recorded a reading of 0.127.
She was charged with excess 0.08 and received an immediate licence disqualification notice and will appear in Harvey Magistrates Court on April 23.
