COUNTRY Veterans Association hosted the City Veterans for the Bruce Rowley Shield on April 9 at the Bunbury Golf Club. The country veterans won back the shield with an aggregate score of 765 points to the city’s 735 points. Individual scores were: Ross Hancock, of Fremantle, won on a countback with 43 points from Paul Chadbourne, of Donnybrook, with 43 points; Steve Jolly, of Sanctuary, 42 points; Bob Garman, of Sanctuary, 41; and Kevin Burton, of Waroona, 41. Next on 39 were Bob Johnston, of Guilderton, Henty Farrar, of Fremantle, Bruce Jackson, of Pinjarra, Barry Bastow, of Capel, and Mick Glasson, of Mandurah. With 38 points each were Phillip DeGaris, Dunsborough Lakes, Peter Shine, of Harvey, David Dawson, of Binningup, Lou Judkins, of Rockingham, Allan Kay, of Dunsborough Lakes, Ron Adams, of Pinjarra, and Laurie Richards, of Dunsborough. A maximum field of 80 players competed at the nine-hole Binningup course on March 28 which saw Balingup’s Lou Pacecca win the day on a countback from Bridgetown’s Chris Grizich, both carding 40 points. Third place went to Waroona’s Kevin Burton on 39 points from Dunsborough Lakes’ Dave Jones on 38 points. Other worthy scores were Frank House, of Kojonup, Steven Ireland, of Collie, Harry Vidulich, of Waroona, and Derek Williams, of Harvey, who finished on 37 points. Gary Scott, of Busselton, Jeff Taylor, of Waroona, and Mal Williamson, of Dunsborough, all finished on 36 points.
A STABLEFORD competition sponsored by Lynda Ovenden was contested by 20 Harvey Golf Club women on April 12. Maggie O’Reilly came out on top with 35 points winning on a count back from Sue Bell. Pam Davey was third with 34. Davey also won the gross. Other good scores included Lynda Ovenden with 33, Judith Doyle 31 and Cathy Loton, Grace Zabajnik and Delilah Hurley all on 30. Novelties were shared by Judith Doyle, Marita Hayward, Pam Davey and Dot Chitty. This Thursday is a stroke round and the first silver spoon for the season. Last Monday, eight Harvey women teamed up to play a veterans event in Busselton. It was a 4BBB and Busselton ladies won with 44. Lynda Ovenden and Maureen Craig and Judy Wyatt and Sylvia Richards had a respectable 41 points.
